Happy Cow - Pure Luck    urbanspoon

"No sign. Clean lined décor. Friendly. Cheap. Delicious. Hipsterville. These are lines to twitter about Pure Luck, a vegan pub good enough to woo this committed carnivore. It’s in MelHel, the Melrose Heliotrope junction next to L.A. City College. Start with surprising selection of local craftsman beers, at around $5 a pint. The barmaid even offered buzzworthy samples to help us choose. There’s organic French press coffee for the caffeine inclined. If you’re lucky – ha – the soup of the day may be borscht, as earthy and viscous as you could want, with a perfect dollop of soy sour cream. The pulled “pork” sandwich made of jackfruit is sweet ‘n spicy with plenty of meaty toothiness. Fries. Oh yes, please do get fries! Sweet potato or regular with extra dipping sauce. Someone at the table should probably get a salad. A spinach or garbanzo bean selection will make everyone happy. No desserts … but who cares when the gelato and Italian ice geniuses of Scoops are right next door?"

Pam Anderson's favorite L.A. vegan food
Fried pickles, vegan sloppy joes and BBQ sandwiches. And they cook with jack fruit, which is an amazing fruit they use to make the mock meat tangy.
